There was a whole saga online about whether you can bring an iced coffee to a job interview.
Thousands of people spent hours arguing about it. Hundreds of thousands of hours, probably, if you add it all up.
Seriously?
Here's the thing:
I don't think I'd refuse to hire someone over an iced coffee. But the fact that this turned into a big internet debate tells you a lot about how some people walk into interviews.
So let me settle it.
Don't bring the iced coffee.
Have your coffee beforehand.
This is not rocket science.
If you need something to drink, bring a water bottle, or coffee in a thermos.
Anything that looks a little more professional than sitting there slurping a latte and dripping shit all over the table.
The truth is this:
Why would you do anything, even something small, that might hurt your chances of getting the job?
This is an opportunity.
It's the thing you've been working hard for.
And you want to risk it so you can sip on an iced latte for 45 minutes?
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes…
The candidates who get hired aren't asking what they can get away with. They're asking what gives them the best shot, and then they do that.
