After a rough day I was ranting to my wife.
Business stuff. Specifically the recent hires I’d made in sales, and how frustrating it is trying to get people to be accountable and just do what needs to be done.
Not my finest hour of patience.
Then, that same night, YouTube serves me up an hour-long video of the Hormozis on a call with business owners.
And the very first question?
My exact problem.
Word for word, practically.
Now, I don’t know if our phones are listening to us or if the tech is just that good at reading our minds. But I was pretty damn impressed. And I’m going to choose to believe it’s not the first time, either. My wife and I will be chatting about trying some restaurant this week, and next thing you know we’re getting ads for every place in town serving the same food.
The technology is there. It’s way more powerful than any of us can comprehend. The algorithms are smarter than us.
Which brings me to job seekers and the ATS.
People are terrified of it. They overthink it. They tweak keywords, try every hack they read about on LinkedIn, and lose sleep over whether some robot is going to bin their resume before a human ever sees it.
Here’s the thing.
There’s really nothing you can do about it. Not in a “beat the system” way, anyway. It’s smarter than your hacks.
But you don’t need to beat it.
Think about who pays for the ATS. It’s not you. It’s the companies. The ATS (and LinkedIn, for that matter) makes its money by helping its paying clients fill roles. That’s it. That’s all it comes down to.
So the ATS has one problem: fill the role for the company paying the bill.
And all you have to do is help it solve that problem.
Position yourself as the obvious solution to the company’s problem, and the software that exists to find that solution will do its job.
That’s exactly what we help you do at Unfair Careers. We position you as the answer to the problem the company is paying to solve, then put you in front of the people who actually make the hiring decision.
